The best European club and university eights will meet up in the heart of Berlin mearly 100 days from today. The East-Side Gallery and the Mercedes-Benz Arena form the perfect frame for an event like the ROWING Champions League. Again, the theme is “reinvent rowing“ and we want to ignite sparks, which will lead to new impulses in the European rowing culture.
The crews qualified over qualification regattas or got nominated by their national associations to ensure a high quality and competitive event in the second year. Thus, not just German League Champions but also victorious club eights from Henley Royal Regatta will race in Berlin, meaning some of the best club and university eights in the world will be on the start line.
The last qualification regattas will be held in September, so that competition can begin on September 20th. Twenty-four Men’s eights and 12 Women’s eights will help to kindle interest in rowing in the capital of Germany.
There will be an official weigh-in and drawing of the heats on Saturday, September 19th. Also, on September 20th the ranking of the ROWING Champions League Final 2015 will be determined through duel racing. The finals will be from 5 pm – 7 pm and it will be worthwhile for every rowing fan to be there and cheer on the rowers! We are in discussions with TV, so timetable will maybe changed.
Furthermore, the crews will have the chance to enjoy excellent catering and a two-night stay in a hotel in the centre of Berlin. Like at the World Cups or Worlds we have fixed costs per person per day. The travel expenses do however have to be covered by the respective rowing clubs. But, the athletes will be given race gear for the final, in the form of a racing shirt, by our partner New Wave. Attractive medals and a challenge trophy round up this magical event.
Media coverage will stream the races on various websites worldwide. Furthermore, it will be broadcasted on regional, national and international TV. More than 100 days before the event we have guarantee for tv coverage in 13 countries with a media outcome of approx. 30 millions.
