THREE Champions at ROWING Champions League 2016

Slavia Prague won the Women’s Final in front of German Champion Melitta-Achter Minden. Third Place went to Austrian Club RV Wiking Linz.  In the Men’s Final it was a DEAD-HEAT between AC Lyon and Crefelder RC. RCL Umpires spent five minutes studying the photo-finish, but could not decide which crew crossed the finish line first. The RCL Board decided to award both crews the title of ROWING Champions League Winners 2016.

In beautiful sunshine and perfect conditions ROWING Champions League 2016 took place on the Spree right in front of the Mercedes-Benz-Arena in Berlin.

In the women´s race Slavia Prague was able to show their strength and won the final race in a time of 0:58:22 minutes. Melitta-Achter Minden won silver in a time of 0:59:27 minutes. Bronze went to the RV Wiking Linz eight, which crossed the finish line a heartbeat before the boat from LRV Berlin.

In the men´s race Crefelder RC and AC Lyon won the final in a DEAD-HEAT time of 0:49,25 minutes. The local crew LRV Berlin beat last year´s Winner Dukla Prague to take the Bronze medal in a time of

The East Side Gallery and the Mercedes Benz Arena were the perfect frame for the sprint rowing event over 350 meters. Thousands of spectators were able to watch the races and were also able to get to know the sport of rowing from a different perspective.“

The event was broadcast „live“ through the internet on http://www.rcl.tv and http://www.sportdeutschland.tv with 5 cameras and one „live“ drone covering the action.

Three-time Olympic Champion Andrew Triggs-Hodge from Great Britain was excited about the quality of sprint rowing on show at the ROWING Champions League Finals. Together with Karin Meuer, the widow of Gerhard Meuer, Andrew presented the medals to the winning crews in glorious sunshine at the end of another very successful ROWING Champions League Event. The men´s trophy was renamed as „Gerhard Meuer Trophy“ at the opening at the regatta.
