2017 ROWING Champions League Final: Prize Money and Country Quotas Announced

Today the board of ROWING Champions League (RCL) agreed the following for the 2017 Final. The European Club and University Sprint Final will take place on Saturday, 30th September 2017 in FRANKFURT AM MAIN, Germany – on the river Main directly in front of the European Central Bank.

It will be one of the flagship events of the European Week of Sports and be the official German closing event of the Week of Sports‘ campaign.

The Final races on 30th September will determine the best female and male sprint eights (350m) from the European club and university rowing scene.

Prize Money:

For the first time at RCL the crews will be competing for a total prize money purse of EUR20,000.

Both first placed W8+ and M8+ will receive EUR5,000.
Each second-placed W8+ and M8+ will receive EUR3,000
With the third-placed W8+- and M8+ each receiving EUR2,000

Country Quotas:

For German crews, the Ruder-Bundesliga (RBL) is the only way to qualify. For both women and men the two top-placed crews of the womens and men’s RBL Division One 2016 are given automatic qualification.

Additionally ROWING Champions League has decided on the following country quotas:
Gender equality for quota places 
2 W8+ and 2 M8+ entries are reserved for each of the following countries – UK, France and Germany.
1 W8+ and 1 M8+ entry is reserved for each of the following countries – Spain, Switzerland, Israel, Hungary, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Turkey, Poland, Denmark, Italy, Austria, Slovenia and Belgium.
As host City Frankfurt has the right to enter one women’s and one men´s crew.

Additionally, ROWING Champions League has 5 wild cards to allocate to the men’s competition.

National Champions (2016) are pre-qualified
RCL Board-Member Nigel Longley is currently in contact with all relevant Rowing Federations to organise the national qualifying processes. Deadline for the Nomination of National Champions is 31st May 2017.

Applications from European clubs must be submitted before 6pm CEST on Sunday 2nd July 2017.

In addition to the above, clubs and universities can apply for wild card places.
These will be judged on entrance submission and current season performance of the crews and the date of application. The interest in these wild card places is expected to be very high. Interested crews are advised to register their interest as soon as possible.
